Travel safety

Our campus is a shared space for pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter riders, buses and vehicles. Help keep Warwick safe, sustainable, and enjoyable for everyone.

General Road Safety Principles

  • Always drive, cycle, and walk with awareness of others and in line with the Highway Code.
  • Be patient and considerate our campus roads are shared by vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, and service users.
  • Observe all speed limits and signage. The maximum speed on campus roads is 20 mph, unless otherwise signed.
  • Do not use mobile phones or other distractions while operating a vehicle or bicycle.
  • Take extra care around crossings, pedestrian zones, and car park entrances.

Cycling

  • Always wear a helmet and use front and rear lights when it’s dark or visibility is poor.
  • Follow one-way systems and stick to cycle routes where possible.
  • Dismount in pedestrian-only areas or near busy building entrances.
  • Keep your bike in good condition, check tyres, brakes and lights regularly.
  • Make yourself visible with reflective clothing or accessories, especially in winter.

  • Use pavements and marked crossings where available.
  • Stay alert around car parks and service areas, these are shared with vehicles.
  • Avoid distractions such as phones or headphones when crossing roads.

E-Scooters and E-Bikes

  • Only use approved rental e-scooters and e-bikes permitted on or near campus.
    Privately owned e-scooters are not allowed on University grounds.
  • Follow the same rules as cyclists: use lights, keep to speed limits, and stay off pavements.
  • Park responsibly in designated docking stations or parking bays and never block paths or entrances.
  • Be considerate of pedestrians, slow down in crowded areas.
