A year in volunteering
Back in May 2023 volunteers shared their time and expertise at a panel event held for PhD students considering careers outside of academia. Indian alumni also spoke with prospective students at an Offer Holder event held in Mumbai.
In Summer 2023, alumna Roopak Kaur Khara (MBChB Medicine, 2008) gave a special talk to secondary school pupils to inspire the next generation of doctors, and fellow alumna Dr Nor Aziz (Industrial and Business Studies, 1997) joined us at our Summer School programme to share what she’s learnt on her journey through higher education.
Summer graduations saw us welcome new graduates to our alumni community. Several alumni returned to campus to share their stories as graduation speakers.
In October 2023 we hosted an event at the House of Lords to highlight how the University is leading the way with its approach to widening participation. We heard from alumnus Attal Shams (BA Social Studies, 2016;MA International Relations, 2018) who shared his powerful and emotional journey through education.
Warwick returned to India in November 2023 and Indian alumni, Pranav Marwah (LLB, Law, 2014) and Sharvil Desai (BSc Management, 2020), spoke to guests at events in Mumbai and Delhi.
In January 2024 we welcomed nearly 5,000 more graduates to our community - a community like no other - and we invited more graduation speakers to share their stories. Alumni, who are now flourishing in careers in the technology, arts, non-profit business sectors and more, returned to campus to inspire and share what they have learnt on their journey since graduating themselves.
In March 2024 a panel of alumni from widening participation backgrounds spoke about their experiences studying and graduating from Warwick, at the Student Success: A Widening Participation Perspective Conference event that took place on campus.
We also saw alumni sharing their expertise as part of a Women in Chemistry panel. Alumni based in South Asia shared their Warwick stories as part of Offer Holder events in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
In April 2024, alumnae participating in the Thrive programme as mentors returned to campus to attend the Thrive Celebration event, and alumna and beauty entrepreneur Lucie Macleod (BA English Literature, 2021) gave a careers talk to students and reflected on her time spent at Warwick.
