Our online webinars

Explore a range of topics with fantastic alumni speakers.

By 2050, a quarter of the world’s people will be African, shaping geopolitics, global trade, migration, technological development, the future of the world’s dominant religions – almost every aspect of life. As the continent continues to undergo this remarkable period of economic and social transformation, Warwick's enduring connection to Africa is only deepening.

In this webinar, our Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Stuart Croft, was live in conversation with Warwick alumna Bience Gawanas, Vice-Chair of the Global Fund. Named as one of the 100 most influential Africans, Bience studied law at Warwick after leaving Namibia under apartheid and going into exile.

Can FinTech empower us in uncertain financial times?

FinTech promises greater control for users, but how much can this technology really level the playing field during turbulent financial times? This webinar explored what support FinTech can offer individuals and businesses in the current cost-of-living crisis, the challenges and opportunities of using this tech in a volatile economy, and how financial technology could revolutionise the way you access your money in the future.

Our all alumni panel included host and Honorary Research Fellow of the Gillmore Centre Matt Hanmer; CEO of Sprive Jinesh Vohra; Head of Sales for YouLend Emmeline Cockshutt; and Co-Founder of Fingo James Da Costa.

The AI race

Dominating recent headlines, artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly dividing opinion. It could help to create content, speed up medical diagnoses, and protect children on social media. But AI can also potentially affect millions of jobs, fool you with deep fakes, and mine your personal data. So, should we be heralding a new age of technology, or is the rise of robots too close to dystopian science fiction?

Our webinar weighed up some of the opportunities and threats posed by AI. Led by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Carsten Maple, our expert panel included alumnus and Vice-President at Verint Raj Balasundaram (MSc Advanced Engineering, 2004), Principal Policy Adviser - AI and Data Science at Information Commissioner's Office Helena Quinn (BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics, 2013), and Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Management at Warwick Business School, Dr Shweta Singh.

Meeting of minds: A conversation about mental health

What affects our mental health and happiness? Do we feel less happy as we approach middle age or at different stages of life? Or do external influences such as the cost-of-living crisis make the biggest difference? And how does thinking about mental health differ around the world?

Shining a light on a topic only growing in importance, our panel included Dr Afiniki Akanet an alumna who’s now a GP and author, and globally-renowned academics, Professor Swaran Preet Singh from Warwick Medical School and Professor Andrew Oswald from the Department of Economics. Topics included youth mental health, mid-life crisis, mental health in developed versus developing countries, and the impact of the cost of living on mental health.
