Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023

The Dept of Classics and Ancient History, University of Warwick invites outstanding early career postdoctoral researchers to contact us with a view to applying for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023, lasting for one or two years. These are designed to support mobility, interdisciplinary research, and career development.

To be eligible to apply you must:

  • Be in possession of a doctoral degree before 13 September 2023
  • Have a maximum of 8 years full-time equivalent experience in research, measured from the date that you were awarded your doctorate
  • Must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies) in the country of the selected Host Institution for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline.

Our Dept has particular interest in hosting researchers working within areas relevant to our research clusters:

· Ancient Literature and Thought

· Ancient Numismatics

· Ancient Spaces

· Classical Epigraphy

· Medical Humanities and Greco-Arabic Studies

Recent research projects include ‘The Materiality of Graeco-Roman Festivals’; ‘Token Communities in the Ancient Mediterranean’; ‘Rome and the Coinages of the Mediterranean’; ‘Ashmolean Latin Inscriptions Project’; ‘A literary history of medicine: the best accounts of the classes of physicians by Ibn Abi Usaybi`ah (d. 1270)’. Early career researchers at Warwick have many opportunities to receive professional training, to apply for internal funding to support the organisation of research events, and to work in a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment, housed in the new award-winning Faculty of Arts Building. Our Dept was recently assessed as 3rd in the UK for Research Excellence in Classics: www.timeshighereducation.com/news/ref-2021-classics.

To discover more about the Dept’s research interests and to identify a potential mentor:

https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/classics/research/ Please first contact a potential mentor in the Dept and then send the following to Prof. Alison Cooley, Director of Research (a.cooley@warwick.ac.uk) by the end of July 2023:

· 2-page outline of proposed project, highlighting how your proposed research goes beyond the ‘state-of-the-art’ and how it will have an interdisciplinary methodology

· 1-page outline of a career development plan, outlining your training needs

· Academic curriculum vitae

This scheme is extremely competitive: the Dept will select the strongest and most suitable applicants for support, but regrets that it will be unable to support every applicant. Please be aware that one of the most critical aspects of the application is to work closely with your dept mentor to create a career development plan as an integral part of your research proposal, so please allow plenty of time for collaboration in putting the application together.
