Assessment

The assessment for this 30 CATS first-year module is as follows:

  • First-Year History Options

1 x seminar presentation or participation (10%)

1 x 1000-word piece of introductory writing (essay plan or assignment of tutor’s choice) (10%)

1 x 2000 word essay or equivalent (30%)
1 x 3000 word essay (50%)

  • Visiting / Exchange Students
    • Please observe any separate deadlines listed in the departmental handbook closely.

No material presented in ANY summative essay may be re-used, either in an examination answer or in a summative essay for another module or in a summative essay/dissertation in a module taken in a subsequent year.

Contact hours for this 30 CATS first-year module are as follows:

  • Module duration: Twenty-three weeks
  • Lectures: Twenty one-hour lectures
  • Seminars: Twenty one-hour seminars
  • Tutorials: Five hours of essay feedback and long essay preparation
  • Total: Forty-five hours
