History Department PG Academic English Language Support
The Academic English Support Classes will take place on Mondays from 15:00 to 16:30 in FAB3.33.
Classes will start in week 2 and will run through the whole of terms 1 and 2 (apart from week 6 reading weeks), and the weeks 2 and 3 of term 3 (as Monday week 1 of term 3 is a bank holiday)
The sessions will be open to new and existing postgraduate students on both research and taught courses.
Any students who took the classes last year are very welcome to continue attending, particularly for the term 2 and 3 writing workshops.
Whilst classes are primarily aimed at students who are studying with English as a second language, they would also be very suitable for students who may be returning to academia after a break, or those who would like general guidance on structure and style of academic writing.
Term 1
Classes will look at the use of language and the choices we make as writers in academia, as well as learning tools to help with the research and writing process. Though the focus is on language, it is more about how language communicates knowledge rather than language tuition, so these sessions would be useful to any student, regardless of dominant language.
Terms 2 and 3
Sessions will adopt a 'writing workshop' approach where students will share writing and provide collaborative feedback. There will also be a focus on sharing research with various audiences.
