The focus of the module will be on how several writers over the last 50 years have addressed National Socialism and the ethical, aesthetic and political problems arising from it. The problem of Vergangenheitsbewältigung and the question of what space National Socialism occupies in German self-understanding has played and continues to play a central role in post-war and contemporary German Literature. You will look at some key literary works as well as essays that elaborate the questions arising from National Socialism and the Holocaust.
The module is assessed by a 3-hour examination.
