‘“French poststructuralism” - a productive misunderstanding’ by Professor Johannes Angermuller (University of Warwick-EHESS (Paris))

‘French thinkers such as Lacan and Derrida are often labelled as representatives of 'poststructuralism' in the Anglophone world. However in France, where their work originated, they use no such category; this group of theorists - 'the poststructuralists' - were never perceived as a coherent intellectual group or movement. My talk will discuss this curious fact in order to reflect on the social dynamics on the international marketplace of ideas. I will draw on my Why There Is No Poststructuralism in France. The Making of an Intellectual Generation. London: Bloomsbury, 2015.’

The seminar will take place on Wednesday 11th October at 4.30pm in the room H4.44, located at the 4th floor) in the Humanities Building (University of Warwick), University Road, Coventry, CV4 7AL (link to campus maps: https://www2.warwick.ac.uk/about/visiting/maps/)
