ECO-EMOTIONS

With the word ECO-EMOTIONS, the last session on Thursday 12 March, 5-6pm, FAB3.32 will be led by Ambika Raja, PhD candidate in English and Comparative Literature, who will introduce two short pre-circulated graphic narratives (links below) to open the conversation. Here’s a brief description of the works chosen by Ambika for the session:

Scotland-based artist Lizzie Wood’s comic ‘SolastalgiaLink opens in a new window’ (2023) and Neil Schwartz’s graphic narrative ‘HopeLink opens in a new window, published in the post-Hurricane Maria comic anthology ‘Puerto Rico Strong’ (2018), speak to the surging concerns with regard to climate change. Together, these two creative productions underscore the multitudinous emotions associated with environmental degradation, such as sadness, powerlessness, fear, and more importantly hope and love. While Lizzie’s work sheds light on the environmental emotion of 'Solastalgia' connected to the loss on one’s home, ‘Hope’ draws attention to surviving a post-disaster environment. Through the lens of these graphic narratives, the session, entitled ‘Eco-emotions’, thus aims to address the anxieties and aspirations of living in an ecologically-imbalanced world.
