European Day of Languages

Languages for Peace

We are launching a poster competition for schools to celebrate The European Day of Languages 26th September 2024 on the theme of “Languages for peace” . The ECML have kindly agreed for us to replicate their competition specifically for our Routes into Languages network of schools.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to all students from Year 3 to Year 11.

How do I enter?

Pupils are invited to create a poster illustrating the theme “Languages for Peace”. This can use symbols, quotes and artwork to covey messages of unity and understanding across different languages. Teachers should complete the submission form via the link below, uploading their entries via a zip file per keystage. Each entry must have the students full name, school and year group clearly visible. Entries can take the form of a photo/scan of their poster or a PDF document and pupils can of course also enter the main EDL competition as well.

Is there a prize?

Entries will be judged by a group of staff from The School of Modern Languages and there will be a winner for each keystage of a £10 Eden Red shopping voucher which can be redeemed in a large range of retail outlets. We will also publish a selection of the entries on our website, on display in The Faculty of Arts building and share our winners with the ECML (European Centre for Modern Languages ) to host on their website. They may also be used as a display in a project on peace and reconciliation in collaboration with Coventry Cathedral to jointly celebrate The University of Warwick’s 60th anniversary and the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2.

When is the deadline?

Entries should be submitted by Wednesday 4 October. The winners will receive notification via email by 11 October. Any questions please contact .

We really look forward to receiving the entries!!
