Improving the quality of information given to potential research participants: a qualitative study

Investigators: Simon Jenkins

This project aimed to establish how well participants who were enrolled on clinical trials understood the trial in which they were participating, and to consider how the provision of information to patients in this context could be improved. We undertook qualitative interviews with patients who were participating in a trial to test the effectiveness of a surgical mesh that was designed to reduce complications after stoma closure operations. These interviews explored the participants’ understanding of the trial, and asked them to consider alternative ways that they would like to receive this information.

Further information to come.
