Anatomical Bodies: Plastinated Prosections in Medical Education

University of Warwick April 13-14 2010

All sessions to be held at Warwick Medical School in room A1.17 unless otherwise stated

Day 1

  • 12-1pm Lunch (provided) and introductions
  • 1pm-1.40pm Introduction to Anatomical Bodies. Julie Palmer
  • 1.40pm-2pm Introduction to interdisciplinary research. Frances Griffiths
  • 2-2.30pm Travel to University Hospital (UHCW) (minibus provided)
  • 2.30-4.30pm Visit to the surgical training suite with Professor Peter Abrahams
    Participants will hear a short presentation from Prof Abrahams before viewing the plastinated specimens in the surgical training suite and experiencing a short anatomy class.
  • 4.30-5pm Return travel to the University of Warwick
  • 7pm Dinner (Provided) at Radcliffe House for participants and speakers
    A chance to continue informal discussion and networking

Day 2

  • 9.30am-11am Lecture by Dr. Maryon McDonald.

    ‘If my mother could see me now…’ The articulation of bodies and cadavers in anatomical dissection classes
    *note this lecture is open to Warwick staff and students. All welcome.
  • 11am-11.30am Coffee/Tea
  • 11.30am - 1pm Facilitated discussion
  • 1pm- 2pm Lunch (provided)
  • 2pm - 3.30pm Moving Forward
    Time to plan outcomes of the workshop

A note about preparation:

We will ask participants to read one or two papers before attending the workshop. We will endeavour to keep these short but we think it is a good way to make sure everyone has some common knowledge and to ensure the standard of discussion is high. We will email participants with the details two weeks before the workshop

The workshop will be held at Warwick Medical School on the Gibbet Hill campus of the University of Warwick.

You can find directions to the University here. Please note that car parking on campus can be extremely difficult. We recommend that you travel by public transport where possible. If you do plan to travel by car, please contact us to discuss parking arrangements.

Where to Stay

We recommend staying with Warwick Conferences . They offer bed and breakfast accommodation on campus. Follow the link for more information and to make an enquiry.

However, you may prefer to stay at a hotel or guest house in Coventry or Kenilworth. While we can't recommend specific places, please contact us if you need any assistance with finding somewhere to stay.
