Research Interests

Karoline's research interests are in health technology assessment and evidence for decision making. She is particularly interested in test evaluations with a methodological focus on the transferability of evidence such as test accuracy data between populations.

Karoline joined Warwick Evidence in October 2012 as a clinical effectiveness reviewer. She has contributed to a range of multiple technology appraisals, diagnostic assessment reports, and a clinical guideline. Health technologies under evaluation included drugs (aspirin for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer), devices (hip replacement interventions for osteoarthritis), surgical procedures (laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy) and tests. Karoline has developed a particular interest in test evaluations including an assay for guiding dose adjustment in patients receiving chemotherapy for colorectal cancer, assays for the monitoring of drugs in Crohn's disease patients, and pathogen panel tests for patients with gastroenteritis. Karoline has collaborative links with the CLAHRC West Midlands and contributes to reviews of screening tests for the UK National Screening Committee. Prior to joining Warwick Evidence, Karoline has worked as a research fellow in the field of health technology assessment in health services research at Warwick Medical School for 6 years. She took part in a socio-economic evaluation of emerging prenatal genetic tests within the EU funded SAFE International Network of Excellence and has undertaken systematic reviews on integrated working with the voluntary sector in children`s services, patient safety in ambulance services and Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) decisions.
