This module is designed as a foundation to meet the learning needs of general dental practitioners who wish to enhance their clinical skills in Endodontics and offer their patients an extended range of treatment options. Students will be taught through a variety of teaching methods and participate in lectures, tutorials, webinars, hands on workshops, online forums and self-directed learning.
Students will receive support to think creatively and independently, to solve problems, to exercise judgment, and to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and colleagues.
The module aims to develop the student’s theoretical knowledge and applied practice of Endodontics:
- To deliver appropriate holistic treatment care planning.
- To apply the assessment, diagnostic and case management skills essential for the successful management of endodontic cases.
- Two study days at the University of Warwick, involving guidance and preparation for the course and coursework assessment
- 10 full-day study days at Warwick Medical School
- Weekly online webinars
- Two days hands-on workshops/ skills sessions at the University’s state-of-the-art training centre in Leamington Spa
- Two observational days in endodontic clinical practice
Please note: The study days, workshops, webinars and observational days are spread across the academic year and are not held consecutively.
1. To demonstrate critical analysis of the aetiology, pathobiology and clinical presentation of diseases of the oral and peri-oral tissues.
2. To differentiate the anatomy and physiology of the oral and peri-oral tissues with particular emphasis to endodontic related tissues.
3. To critically evaluate the general and clinical epidemiology of oral diseases.
4. To critically appraise the biomaterial science relevant to endodontics.
5. To critically examine the impact of systemic diseases on oral tissues and of oral disease on systemic health.
6. To show evidence of the ability to examine and evaluate research as an evidence base in endodontics, and how research informs practice.
7. To demonstrate the ability to sustain a critical argument in writing.
8. To demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems.
9. To act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at a professional or equivalent level.
10. To continue to advance students’ knowledge and understanding in the field and to develop new expertise to a high level
