Extreme performance mass spectrometry for metals in biology and medicine

Supervisor: Peter J. Sadler and Pete O'Connor Sponsor: Bruker

The aims of the project are:

  1. To develop state-of-the-art methods for the analysis of metals in anticancer compounds and in their adducts with biomolecules such as peptides, proteins and DNA.
  2. To analyse complex mixtures containing adducts of metallodrugs with biomolecules such as cell culture media and cancer cells.
  3. To develop new methods for the sample fragmentation, acquisition and processing of high resolution MS data, that will allow identification of the metal, its oxidation state and the bound ligands.
