Metals of Life Symposium Success

On occasion of Prof Peter Sadler’s 80th birthday a three-day symposium, "Metals of Life: Transforming Health, Energy, and Environment" was held at Warwick from 5th-7th July 2026.

The event started with presentations by year 12 students from schools across the Midlands and Mainland and Hong Kong China who had participated in the Salty Solutions research project over the past eight months.

The best presentations and posters were awarded prizes, sponsored by Chemistry Europe and the conference organising committee. The day continued with plenary lectures by former President of the RSC, Prof Lesley Yellowlees (University of Edinburgh), Prof Rosalind Rickaby (University of Oxford), and Prof Paul Donnelly (University of Melbourne, Australia), and concluded with a family BBQ.

Days 2 and 3 were dedicated to showcasing the best of Metals of Life, starting with a plenary lecture by Prof Peter Sadler (in his England football T-shirt!). Nearly 40 talks were given by Sadler group alumni, collaborators, and friendsLink opens in a new window. Participants had come from across the world including China, India, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Australia, and the USA.
