Welcome to Chemistry!

Welcome to Chemistry!

We can't wait to meet you in September to help you settle into University life. You'll find information on this page that you might find useful ahead of starting with us, so please take a few minutes to read through.

We're here for you every step of the way! If you have any questions before you start then please just contact us. You can reach us via e-mail at chem.experience@warwick.ac.uk or DM us on Instagram @warwickchem

Before you arrive

We don't require you to do any background reading for your course before your arrival; however, for students without Maths A-level (or equivalent) who'd like to re-familiarise themselves with the subject, we recommend Maths for Chemists by Martin Cockett and Graham Doggett, 2nd edition. Once you arrive, online access to all core textbooks is provided by the library so there is no need to purchase anything.

During your first couple of weeks, you'll receive access to electronic textbooks and will be given your laboratory coat, safety glasses and a molecular modelling kit.

IT devices and applications

To fully engage with your studies, you'll need a personal computing device. Please read the University guidance on minimum specifications. We'll provide you with a drawing tablet (similar to the Wacom Creative Pen Tablet). You may choose to use your own device (such as Surface or iPad) if you prefer, but any upgrade to your own equipment will not be reimbursed. You’ll also need a webcam.

Please check our New Student Toolkit for details of useful apps to download ready to start with us.

Welcome week schedule

We have designed a welcome week schedule to introduce you to life as a Chemistry student at Warwick. Details of welcome week will be shared with you in September. It's really important that you attend all core sessions as you'll be introduced to key members of staff, and you'll learn about what is expected of you. It is also a fantastic way of meeting your new classmates and becoming familiar with locations around campus too.

We know the first few weeks can be overwhelming, and you'll be receiving a lot of new information. If you're unsure of anything, then just contact the Student Experience Team who can meet with you.
