Our research group is interested in 1) advanced applications of mass spectrometry - particularly those requiring high resolution, mass accuracy, and detailed characterization of molecules using many types of fragmentation techniques and 2) improving FTICR mass spectrometry instrumentation to better enable such applications.

Ideal applications include:

Proteomics (particularly top-down)

Detailed characterization of protein post-translational modifications

Glycomics and glycation - particularly as related to Diabetes

Deamidation, oxidation, and other methods of aging of proteins.

Petroleum analysis (primarily Mark Barrow's area of interest)

Instrumental developments include:

Phasing of FTICR mass spectra and its applications

New FTICR cell designs

New ion transfer optics

FTICR MS electronics
