A Journey of Insight and Innovation: The Participation and Presentation at the 7th East Africa Regional Healthcare Engineering Conference 2024 EARC in Mwanza, Tanzania.

The 7th East Africa Regional Healthcare Engineering Conference (EARC) 2024 in Mwanza, Tanzania, brought together scholars and professionals to address critical challenges in biomedical engineering. Representing a collaborative international team, our intern Mr Ernest Bwogi presented research on oxygen concentrator failures in low-resource settings, exploring the impact of dust and humidity. The experience was transformative, offering valuable feedback, inspiring discussions, and fostering meaningful connections. This milestone highlighted the importance of collaboration, persistence, and knowledge-sharing in driving innovation.


University of Warwick Contributes to Frugal Innovation Bootcamp

Dr. Davide Piaggio from the University of Warwick played a key role in the "IoT and AI for Frugal Innovation 2024" bootcamp, hosted by Università Campus Bio-Medico of Rome. Dr. Piaggio, along with PhD student James Wallace, led sessions on frugal innovation, 3D printing design, and blood pressure estimation using PPG signals. The bootcamp, supported by the Biomedical Engineering Institute and the Society & Culture Spotlight, provided students with hands-on learning in resource-constrained environments, with special recognition for scholarship recipient Dr. Gamal Abdulnaser Yahya Al-Kawsi.


ABSPIE publication success – Sustainability across the Medical Device Lifecycle: A Scoping Review

This interdisciplinary project, co-sponsored by the Health GRP and the Innovative Manufacturing and Future Materials GRP, was undertaken by Dr Davide Piaggio, Dr Alessia Maccaro and Mr Pedro Checa (ABSPIE lab), Dr Luis Montesinos, Dr Javier Maldonado-Romo (Tecnologico de Monterrey), Mr Stefano Capacci (Longevity Partners) and Ms Mireya Fabregat (ENSHPO).

The article discusses key points learned from the literature in terms of improving the sustainability of the medtech industry.

Warwick School of Engineering at the Africa Region Biomedical Engineering Conference

The 1st edition of the Africa Region Biomedical Engineering and Health Technology ConferenceLink opens in a new window is being held in Nairobi, Kenya, from the 6th to 8th of September of 2023. This was organised by AMEKLink opens in a new window Kenya, supported by the IFMBELink opens in a new window Africa Biomedical Engineering working group, which also has representatives at Warwick (Dr Davide Piaggio), and by the IFMBE (Prof Leandro Pecchia is Secretary General).
