Francesco Cappuccio was appointed to the Cephalon Chair in July 2005, as Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and Epidemiology, the only endowed Chair in the School.
Franco trained at the University of Naples, and is a cardiovascular physician, a clinical epidemiologist and a public health expert. Clinically, his interests are in hypertension and its complications.
His wide-ranging research profile includes the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease, nutrition and health, metabolic abnormalities and cardiovascular risk, and risk in ethnic minorities. He and his team have recently begun to apply their expertise and methods to the field of Sleep, with particular interest in the relationships between the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of sleep deprivation and disruption.
With data from studies including Whitehall II, ELSA, IMMIDIET, Olivetti and others, there are exciting opportunities in this developing area.
