Research Culture Cafes – exploring what you need to flourish at WMS

Research Culture launch
EnhancIng Research Culture at WMS

To inform our work towards developing a collaborative, positive and inclusive research culture at WMS, we held a series of café style conversations in February, April and June. We wanted to hear your experiences and thoughts and ideas for how WMS can change. By getting involved, you will help to shape and deliver a better research culture at WMS for all. Thank you to everyone who came along to engage in these lively discussions.

The results from the conversations have informed the development of the 'WMS Research Culture Roadmap’ which is shared with the community through these newly created WMS Research Culture webpages and at the ‘WMS Research Culture Roadmap’ launch event on 19th July.

How the Cafes worked:

Small and large group conversations were supported by a facilitator and note taker (notes were anonymised). We posed some questions to help get the conversation started and explored a range of topics, including:

  • The importance of personal development, reward, and recognition
  • Achieving a collegiate and supportive environment
  • Supporting equality, diversity, and inclusivity across WMS
  • Responsible research and innovation

Who was invited?

Everyone was welcome. We had engagement from students (MBChB, undergraduates, PGR, PGT), Professional Support Staff (enablers of research across the research journey), academics, teachers and researchers all working together and sharing their views and knowledge to support WMS in working towards a more positive, vibrant, inclusive, and healthy research culture.

These activities are possible thanks to Research England's Enhancing Research Culture Fund.
