Bilal Salman

"I am currently a GP Trainee on the Coventry and Warwickshire VTS and an Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) in General Practice based at Warwick Medical School. I am part of the Unit of Academic Primary Care and have been in post since February 2020.

"I completed my medical degree at Warwick, having undertaken an undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool prior to this.

"I gained my first experience of clinical research and academic medicine as part of my medical elective. I was able to complete a small research project and obtain funding to complete and then present my work at a conference in Belfast. This 'pricked' my interest in research, and I went on to complete an Academic Foundation Programme based in the West Midlands.

"Following this I spent some time as an Emergency Medicine trainee and then as an ACF in Clinical Radiology. I switched to GP training but wanted to continue gaining research experience and develop an academic career, therefore I applied to my current post.

"My research interest is in Digital Health, with a focus on remote consultation and GP training. As part of my ACF I am completing postgraduate degree by research (MScR). I have also been able to competitively secure funding and a Topol NHS Digital Fellowship to support my research project."
