After completing her doctorate at the University of Birmingham, Deborah was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Antimicrobial Agents Research Group at Birmingham Medical School, researching mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in human gastrointestinal pathogens, including Salmonella and Campylobacter.
In 2006, Deborah set up her own business as a freelance biomedical writer and worked for the Medical Research Council as a consultant expert referee selector, assisting with the peer review of research grant proposals. She joined Warwick Medical School in 2008 and is now the Research Portfolio Development Manager for University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW).
She is responsible for developing the research culture within the Trust to increase the potential and capacity for research and to advance its reputation as a research active University Hospital recognised for world-leading clinical research. This includes:
(i) Raising and broadening awareness of research funding opportunities;
(ii) Developing relationships with strategic partners and pursuing opportunities for collaboration;
(iii) Working on large strategic bids for major research developments within the Trust and jointly with strategic partners;
(iv) Offering advice to applicants on their grant proposals to improve quality, clarity and the likelihood of success.
Deborah is based in the Research, Development & Innovation department at University Hospital Coventry and is at Warwick Medical School, Gibbet Hill campus, one day a week.
