Governance & Society Requirements
Warwick Medical Society (MedSoc) works closely with Warwick Students’ Union (SU) and Warwick Medical School (WMS) to support over 60 affiliated student societies run their activities and access support as needed. In this sense, MedSoc functions like a mini-SU, helping to provide a greater sense of student community and build connections.
New Governance for Med-Soc Affiliated Sub Societies
To ensure that all sub-societies of MedSoc are able to operate safely, changes were required; crucially, to ensure students are insured and safeguarded. Following the Town Hall meeting, a vote took place where current MedSoc members voted in a new governance model negotiated by MedSoc committee with SU and WMS in 2024/5. This model will help protect students and enable societies to access greater support and resources. These changes are in line with Warwick SU requirements for societies as well as requirements that MedSocs across the country implement for their societies.
For More Information on the Above - Please See the Following Link
Please find below the Society Directory with a list of MedSoc Affiliated Subsocieties. Below that is a description of Societies, with their relevant logos and contact details.

The MREM Network aims to develop lasting relationships between regional medical schools, linking groups within these institutions dedicated to reducing the attainment gap and improving racial equality in medicine.
This conference aims to build connections between medical schools and provide both staff and students with the ability to learn about upcoming initiatives, present research and attend panels and workshops. This is with the overall aim of increasing attainment and overall graduate outcomes amongst ethnic minority medical students.
At Warwick Medical School, we have students from all different backgrounds coming here to learn medicine.
Non-Sciences Peer Teaching understands that sometimes students from Non-Science Backgrounds may need some additional help with Physiology/Anatomy-based topics.
These sessions are designed to provide extra learning and support to students from non-science backgrounds, but all are welcome.
Sessions are normally taught by Upper Year Medical Students and held in one of the teaching rooms.
Please reach out to the Seminar/ Society Leads below.
Society Leads: Theo Clark, Caroline Spence and Alexandra Ostendorf
In 2018, we launched our national conference, The National INSPIRE Graduate Entry Research in Medicine (GERM) Conference. The conference aimed to address the disadvantage GEM students face arising from the condensed nature of the course, which limits the opportunities GEM students have to disseminate their research. This limitation can be far-reaching, particularly when graduate-entrants conduct high-quality research, and yet time prohibits them from either truly benefitting from the experience, or from reaching their potential (in addition to excellent work being lost).

With competition ratios rising each year, it’s never too early to get a head start on what comes next as a med student.

We organise art-related evening classes for medics (and their partners/friends) roughly once per block. We believe EVERYONE has artistic talent and that being able to indulge in arts and crafts is great for wellbeing. We also feel that supporting artistic ability makes better doctors (beyond communication, education, and problem solving, think stitching, plastics, imaging, etc.)
Our events last a few hours and are priced between £0-3 (all materials & snacks included).
Last year’s events (all photos on Instagram):
- Make a Clay Pot
- Selecting art for the MTC from Warwick’s archives
- An Introduction to Sketching
- Make your own Advent Calendar
- Paper Marbling (awarded ‘Medics of the Week’!)
- Felting
- Art Therapy
Upcoming events:
- Collaboration with Sustainability Society
- 2022-23 Art Showcase (with drinks & nibbles)

Conferences
Beacon Academy Conference
Beacon Academy invite students and staff from universities across the UK to celebrate success in widening participation, sharing best practices, and explore opportunities in enhancing support available for underrepresented groups in higher education. We are proud to be delivering protected internships, designed by those that they serve. We aim to break ground by not only building and widening access to clinical research with input from those from these backgrounds, but also by sharing best practices to create significant strides in supporting our underrepresented future clinical academics.
INSPIRE Graduate Entry Research in Medicine (GERM) Conference
In 2018, we launched our national conference, The National INSPIRE Graduate Entry Research in Medicine (GERM) Conference. The conference aimed to address the disadvantage GEM students face arising from the condensed nature of the course, which limits the opportunities GEM students have to disseminate their research. This limitation can be far-reaching, particularly when graduate-entrants conduct high-quality research, and yet time prohibits them from either truly benefitting from the experience, or from reaching their potential (in addition to excellent work being lost).
MREM Conference
This conference aims to build connections between medical schools and provide both staff and students with the ability to learn about upcoming initiatives, present research and attend panels and workshops. This is with the overall aim of increasing attainment and overall graduate outcomes amongst ethnic minority medical students.
PHEMTEC
PHeMTEC is a two-day, student-run conference focused on pre-hospital and emergency medicine.
Day 1 features lectures and workshops led by PHEM clinicians, military medics and emergency medicine specialists.
Day 2 is a large scale mass casualty simulation designed to test teamwork, triage, leadership and clinical decision making in a realistic, high-pressure environment
PhEMTEC 2026 will be held on 22/03

Warwick Wilderness Medicine
Wilderness is all about getting out and having outdoor adventures as well as learning lots of exciting pre-hospital and expedition medicine skills.
We organise walk and pub lunches, talks by expedition medics, our famous weekend trips, as well as teach activities like climbing, slacklining, or mountain biking. We also teach lots of wilderness medicine, taking people through the basics of an out-of-hospital A to E assessment, to simulated scenarios, all the way to taking teams to the national pre-hospital medicine competition every year!
Absolutely everyone is welcome regardless of interest or experience, whether you want to get out for your first outdoor activity and want some guidance or you’re a seasoned mountaineer, we’d love you to join!

We run volunteering sessions at Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre- teaching first aid to displaced people living locally. We also work with local refugee charities to run educational events and fundraisers to advocate for the rights of refugees and campaign against hostile immigration policies. WMS Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH)
Teddy Bear Hospital is a voluntary project aimed at children of primary school age. We organise Teddy Bear Hospital events throughout the academic year, where children are invited to bring along their 'poorly' teddies to visit the Teddy Bear Doctor, where they will receive 'treatment' at the clinic.
The events enable WMS students to further develop their interaction skills with children, whilst educating children about health and wellbeing in a fun and friendly way and hopefully reducing any nerves about trips to the doctor/ hospital.
