Our society runs a variety of events that aim to educate medical students on the role of anaesthesia within the hospital and critical care. Previously, we have held events with anaesthetists who have explained the training programme and their role in the hospital. Also, we have held teaching sessions that involve practising critical care skills such as the A-E assessment and airway management using real-life simulation equipment. This allows you to have the opportunity to practice your skills (particularly before OSCEs!). We are looking forward to seeing you at the next event!

We organise art-related evening classes for medics (and their partners/friends) roughly once per block. We believe EVERYONE has artistic talent and that being able to indulge in arts and crafts is great for wellbeing. We also feel that supporting artistic ability makes better doctors (beyond communication, education, and problem solving, think stitching, plastics, imaging, etc.)
Our events last a few hours and are priced between £0-3 (all materials & snacks included).
Last year’s events (all photos on Instagram):
- Make a Clay Pot
- Selecting art for the MTC from Warwick’s archives
- An Introduction to Sketching
- Make your own Advent Calendar
- Paper Marbling (awarded ‘Medics of the Week’!)
- Felting
- Art Therapy
Upcoming events:
- Collaboration with Sustainability Society
- 2022-23 Art Showcase (with drinks & nibbles)
- Welcome Session for the start of 2023-24

The overall aim of the Athena SWAN sponsored Warwick SMT Beacon Internships is to create opportunities to upskill ‘under-represented’ communities in clinical research, through mentored internships in healthcare technologies and healthcare innovation. The five Beacon Internships are:

For students interested in Medical Education from a Digital perspective, this internship is arranged through one of our Senior Academic Technologists Cath Fenn.
For 2023 the students are Chloe Berg, Carmen Chung, Tom Paddock, Charlotte Pemberton, & Tom Shah.
Hours to commit per week are flexible to work around our other commitments, such as exams, placements, and our own lives! Through the internship we've been able to give back to our WMS community and be reimbursed for the work that we want to invest in improving the student experience at WMS. This means that we have been paid to review new digital platforms (VR, curriculum organisers), work with faculty (co-creating curricula and policy-guides), generate new digital learning content (revamping and creating numerous Student-made Guides, videos on utilising NHS E-portfolio), and build the new Student Hub!

In 2018, we launched our national conference, The National INSPIRE Graduate Entry Research in Medicine (GERM) Conference. The conference aimed to address the disadvantage GEM students face arising from the condensed nature of the course, which limits the opportunities GEM students have to disseminate their research. This limitation can be far-reaching, particularly when graduate-entrants conduct high-quality research, and yet time prohibits them from either truly benefitting from the experience, or from reaching their potential (in addition to excellent work being lost).

RMD is a nationwide initiative to teach bystander CPR and BLS to as many people as possible. Through the (evidenced as best!) ethos peer-led teaching, we're student-led, and volunteer to teach BLS, AED, and first aid training to MB ChB Phase I students, who are expected to undertake the course. Sessions are taught to the standards of the European Resuscitation Council and run throughout the academic year on Monday evenings. We also hold community events in our outreach programme to teach these same skills to the public, which our members can volunteer at.
There’s opportunity to train to become a teacher on the course, and we hope to hold some fundraiser events throughout the year.

Teddy Bear Hospital is a voluntary project aimed at children of primary school age. We organise Teddy Bear Hospital events throughout the academic year, where children are invited to bring along their 'poorly' teddies to visit the Teddy Bear Doctor, where they will receive 'treatment' at the clinic.
The events enable WMS students to further develop their interaction skills with children, whilst educating children about health and wellbeing in a fun and friendly way and hopefully reducing any nerves about trips to the doctor/ hospital.
