Plastic Surgical Reconstruction of Limb Injuries

This module will provide a theoretical basis for healthcare professionals to understand the pathomechanics of upper and lower limb trauma and the principles of treatment. These include assessment of injuries, acute treatment and reconstruction in complex injuries.

Topics covered will include:

• Applied anatomy of upper and lower limbs including bones and soft tissues
• Epidemiology and pathomechanics of upper and lower limb injuries
• Assessment of upper and lower limb injuries including assessment of limb viability as well as assessment for replantation/revascularisation
• Investigations including imaging
• Emergency management of upper and lower limb injuries in A&E setting
• Definitive management of upper and lower limb injuries including principles of fracture fixation, tendons, nerve and vessel repair and soft tissue cover
