Why did you choose BSc Health and Medical Sciences at Warwick?
I actually wasn’t aware I qualified for a course like this! I had another course at the university fall through, and I was offered this. I liked the look of the uni and went for it!
How have you found the course so far?
My first year was a bit rough, partly because I was learning medical topics with no biology/chemistry background, and partly because I had a little too much fun recreationally! However for my second and third year, I’ve been so happy I chose this course. It's unique, I learn so many new and interesting things. It continues to challenge me and I have found specific interests – women’s health and digital health, which get explored all the time.
How have you found the change from college to university?
Fairly easy, although it would have been easier if I had done Biology A-level. The support is different but that’s to be expected. It's definitely manageable and a lot of people care about you, you just need to reach out.
What have you enjoyed most about the course so far?
I really enjoyed the Infections module despite it not being something I found easy.
Have you been involved in any extra curricular activities/societies?
I am on Women’s Hockey Exec. I have played for them since week 1 of uni first year - it has changed my life and I love it.
Do you have an idea of what you would like to do when you graduate?
I would like to go into digital health or women’s health or something that intersects there. Further study is also on the table - Warwick offers some good courses and I'm also looking abroad.
Do you have any advice for people applying for the course?
Do not be put in a box from your A levels, you will be surprised with what you can achieve despite being told you have to follow specific paths. Throw yourself into it, and ask as many questions as possible. Turn up to your 9am lectures even though they are painful. Live in Rootes, Bluebell, Jack Martin or Arthur Vick, or that walk to Gibbet Hill campus gets LONG.
Finally, which three words would you use to describe your experience of studying at WMS?
Challenging, Constructive, Cool
