Academic requirements

Our academic requirements for entry to the MB ChB are detailed below. Please note we are unable to carry out an 'individual review' of an applicant's application to the programme.

Degree requirements

To apply, you should have, or be expected to achieve, a minimum of an upper second class honours (2:1) degree (or overseas equivalent) in any subject. Candidates with a lower second class degree should hold either a Master's or a Doctoral qualification awarded at the point of application to be considered for entry to the MB ChB.

During the selection process, you will be awarded points for your highest achieved academic qualification. You will only receive points for PhD and Master's qualifications which are complete and awarded by the UCAS application closing date.

Please note that any pending postgraduate qualifications must be fully completed prior to the course start date, with no exceptions.

Unclassified degrees

If you are studying for an undergraduate degree which is unclassified please contact us directly, prior to the UCAS deadline for applications (mbchb.admissions@warwick.ac.uk). Applications received after the UCAS deadline and without prior contact with us will not be considered.

Integrated Masters

In the case of an Integrated Masters eg. MEng/MPharm, we require the equivalent of a Pass grade or above at Master's level (minimum 2:2).

Applying from Dentistry

To apply you should have, or be expected to achieve, at least an ordinary/normal Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognised UK dental programme.

If your dental degree is not from a UK institution you must hold either full General Dental Council (GDC) registration and/or be a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) for your application to be considered.

Note if you have received your dental degree and are interested in studying medicine with a view to pursuing a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, you should research the eligibility requirements for this path prior to applying. Dental qualifications beyond BDS such as completion of Dental Foundation Training and/or MFDS may be required.

A-Levels and GCSEs

We do not consider your A-level or GCSE examination results.

Applicants who have previously studied medicine

We will not consider applications from students who have previously studied medicine and have had to leave the programme of study due to academic failure without successful mitigation (in one or more subjects/modules/blocks) or due the findings of a fitness to practise hearing. If you have previously studied Medicine (even outside of the UK) you must contact us prior to making an application.

Deferred entry/ Transfers

We do not accept deferred entry or transfers from other programmes.
