For six weeks in Year Four you will undertake a medical project in a setting of your choice.
Most students choose to undertake their electives outside the UK, to observe how medicine is practiced in another country and to experience a different social, cultural and physical environment.
Our students have undertaken a huge variety of projects including scientific studies, audits, hands on clinical experience and health education everywhere from major medical and scientific institutions in the UK and abroad to small rural health projects in challenging locations such as India, Nepal and Tonga.
To get a feel for what previous MB ChB students have done for their electives, have a read of some of the elective reports below:
We do not currently additionally negotiate for places for students from other institutions with our healthcare partners. Those partners are, however, at liberty to accept additional students if they wish and should be approached directly.
Specifically, our teaching hospitals are:
- University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
- Warwick Hospital
- George Eliot Hospital
- The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch
Community placements are arranged via Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust.
Any correspondence should be addressed to the undergraduate coordinator.
