Pre-conference workshops

1. Writing an authentic virtual patient

Cath Fenn, Senior Academic Technologist and Apoorva Thukur, MB ChB student

What do you need to think about when writing a case to help students develop their clinical reasoning skills? How can a simple PowerPoint template support clinical teams in the development of authentic effective learning resources. If you can edit PowerPoint then this session if suitable for you. Building in authenticity of scenarios helps us to ensure that our students have early exposure to the challenging decision making that will be required of them. VPs enable us to support students as they develop key skills and learn from mistakes in an environment where patients are safe from harm. Also helps us during times when our patients and human simulated patients are less available to us.

2. An introduction to anti-racist pedagogy

Imogen Davies, Olanrewaju Sorinola (Attainment Gap Working Group)

This workshop will introduce you to some key terminology around race and racism. It aims to inform you and also to help you to use that new language. We will provide structured and facilitated discussion of how to respond to different types of racism, and aim to motivate you to become better able to see racism in you own contexts. Please come with an open mind, we want this to be a space for respectful and open discussion about a difficult topic.
