Dr Paul De Cates
Academic Lead for Phase III
What does your role involve?
I am responsible for learning, teaching, assessment and support for students in Phase III MBChB. I am especially involved in providing oversight of the Phase III curriculum, in working with the trust and GP teams providing clinical placements, and in working with the assessment and student support teams here at WMS.

Any issues of an academic nature relating Phase III, especially where these issues have not been addressed at a local trust or block level, or where students do not feel it appropriate to raise in this way. I am always interested to hear any feedback (positive or negative!) from students about any aspect of Phase III, especially if this feedback is not being captured or addressed by our existing evaluation processes.

Phase III Administrative Lead
What does your role involve?
I complete the clinical allocations for the SCP placements in Phase III and provide administrative support on the SSC2, the AC2, the ACC, the Electives and the Assistantship modules.

Dr Zaki Gaballa
Deputy Senior Tutor Year 4

What does your role involve?
I am the Deputy Senior Tutor for Year 4, Clinical Personal Tutor and educational supervisor for WMS.
I am also a full time doctor at South Warwick Foundation Trust (SWFT) and I am an Associate Specialist in Anaesthesia.

On Wednesdays (usually) I work as an assessing GP for the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine or as a bank GP for a community hospital.
Before work or at weekends I usually head outside…I love observing and taking photos of wildlife - see if you can spot any in CBL or lecture slides! My other great love is classical music and I sing with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

What does your role involve?
My role centres around managing the GP placements across both Phase II and Phase III. This involves management of the delivery of the GP course across the curriculum including organising the training of the community GP tutors, engaging new practices when needed and ensuring quality standards are maintained in both the community and in house teaching the students receive.

What does your role involve?
I am a member of the WMS Assessment Team and my key responsibility is to manage the Finals OSLER exams. In addition I assist with other clinical and written assessments.
I also work as a GP tutor and enjoy teaching on the Phase III GP block. I am involved with training practice-based GP tutors.

Dr Jonathan Maxwell

What does your role involve?
Teaching communication skills on the GP block. Facilitating simulated patient scenarios including breaking bad news and challenging consultation. Review of recordings of patient consultations and leading small group teaching on Thursday each week during the GP block. I am involved in assessing and have been involved in MBCHB selection for a few years now.

Dr Andrea Wilkinson

What does your role involve? I support and mentor the CEF’s in terms of recruitment, diary planning and teaching / feedback. I support the department to deliver the curriculum for WMS students. I teach undergraduate medical students with a focus on General Medicine and I love teaching Haematology and Palliative medicine. I am the Deputy Exams Lead and deliver the OSLER and OSCE training to faculty as well as acting as an examiner.

Clinical role involved with care of patients admitted to Coronary care unit- George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust for two and half days per week and my teaching role involves facilitating workshops , bedside teaching and COMETs for undergraduate medical students for another two and half days per week. I also participate in undergraduate OSLER and OSCE exams in Warwick medical school.

Dr Chris Bannon

What does your role involve? I currently act as simulation lead for teaching sessions at Warwick hospital across the senior clinical placement (SCP) blocks. I act as a mentor for the students when they undertake the care of the surgical patient block. I also contribute towards PACES and bedside teaching. My primary clinical interest is metabolic medicine and I take part in weekly endocrinology clinics. Before clinical education I was an academic clinical fellow and I still contribute to ongoing research in the metabolic medicine.

What does your role involve?
I am trying to teach you, and help you understand the child health aspects of the curriculum. That way, even if you’re not fussed about paediatrics, you won’t panic if you meet a small person in your exam!
