Commending Outstanding Professional Behaviour (MBChB)

The GMC suggests that systems for monitoring professionalism have the advantage that they can also be used to recognise and promote exemplary professional behaviour (Professional Behaviour and Fitness to Practise).

The following process has been developed for commending outstanding professional behaviour and/or attitudes of MB ChB students and staff both inside and outside of the learning environment.

Examples of exemplary professional behaviour include but are not limited to the core values of the Warwick Doctor:

  • Kindness
  • Humility
  • Integrity
  • Academic rigour
  • Innovation/Creativity
  • Support for others

Specific examples of exemplary professional behaviour may include but is not limited to:

  • Exceptional team working
  • Promoting patient safety and be able, where appropriate, to raise concerns
  • Demonstrating honesty and integrity

What will happen after I log a request for a commendation?

  • Commendations will be picked up by a senior member of the admin team several times a week. You will be sent an acknowledgement that your nomination has been received.
  • Your submission will be forwarded to Dr Kate Owen and the phase lead for review.
  • If it is agreed that the student has demonstrated outstanding professional behaviour, a letter of commendation will be sent to the student and the HWP Group will keep a log of all commendations. The letter of commendation may form part of the students professional portfolio, and could boost future career applications.

  • Commendations for staff will be sent to Prof Colin Macdougall and staff will receive an individual message of thanks and commendation.
  • We aim to report the outcome to you.
