Clinical Skills
At WMS, students have patient contact from very early on into the course. Term 1 provides extensive training in clinical history-taking and examination skills. From term 2 students are taught in small groups at one of our 3 main teaching hospitals. There is also opportunity for self-directed learning with patients by allowing early access to patients on the wards. Core procedurals and resuscitation skills are also taught in year 1.
As the course progresses, students are taught all the skills required of an early years junior doctor. After completing the assessments on these skills students are allowed, under close clinical supervision, to use these skills to help manage patients in the clinical setting.
Our NHS Partners operate a Bare Below the Elbows policy, please see our guidance on personal appearance and dress-code for medical students on clinical placements.
