UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship Guidance

Please note, that for internal candidates, R&IS is hosting an online workshop on the FLF on 09 February 2026.

For the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship, please complete and submit the dedicated EOI template provided. This is a mandatory University template, which includes track record and proposed vision/approach; you must adhere to the specified page and font limits.

Internal selection deadline is 5:00 pm GMT 20 February 2026. Please check if your cluster has an earlier internal contact deadline. The Astronomy cluster's contact deadline is 30 January 2026.

Please note the EOI template is provided by the University and is required (the five-page limit includes references).

FLF Selection Process

In Round 11, as in previous rounds, we are expecting a cap on the number of applications an organisation can submit. Warwick has previously been limited to submitting a maximum of 6 applications and our expectation is that the same limit will remain in Round 11. R&IS is therefore operating an internal selection process, which is outlined below:

Interested applicants (internal and external) are asked to submit an Expression of Interest. External applicants are welcome to apply, provided they have departmental support.

All applicants should contact their relevant cluster within Physics as early as possible to express their interest in the scheme and to assess their eligibility. The Physics Department can nominate a maximum of 2 applicants to the internal selection process.

Th Physics internal selection will be carried out by a panel of Research Committee Cluster Representatives. Clusters may nominate additional panel members to ensure diversity across career stage, research background, and personal characteristics. All candidates will be given feedback and the 2 successful candidates will be given the opportunity to incorporate feedback prior to their EOI being sent to Research Strategy & Development by the Head of Department by noon on Wednesday, 4th March 2026.

Applications will then be first reviewed by Faculty-level selection panels, which will be chaired by the Chair of Faculty or a nominated representative. A maximum of 4 proposals selected from each Faculty will then be taken forward to be reviewed by a University-level selection panel, which will identify the 6 applications to be submitted to UKRI. The University selection panel will be chaired by Professor David Leadley as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research or a nominated representative. All panels will be made up of a range of disciplinary expertise, as is standard practice for the UKRI assessment panels for this competition.

Applications received will be assessed against criteria that can be found here.

The internal selection panels at the Faculty and University level will make their decisions solely on the basis of the information contained in the EOI and host School/Department’s supporting statement, assessing them against the fit to the scheme assessment criteria as outlined above. Applicants should therefore provide the full information requested using the templates provided. Applicants should be mindful that the submitted EOI will be used for both Faculty-level and University-level selections, and that not all panel members will be from the research discipline of the applicant. The information in the proposal should therefore be stated in a clear format for all panel members, including non-experts. Due to time constraints, it will not be possible for EOIs to be amended between the Faculty-level and University-level selection panels.
