Dr Katarzyna Macieszczak

I am an Assistant Professor in the Theoretical Physics Group in the Department of Physics. I am also a member of Warwick Quantum.

Research

My research focuses on quantum features of open quantum systems dynamics, where interacting many-body systems undergo non-equilibrium dynamics due to the presence of external environments. I am interested in identifying new paradigms where the quantum coherence and correlations are protected during experimental timescales, for example, because of quantum metastability. See also Open Quantum System Dynamics.

I have a background in the field of quantum metrology, where quantum entanglement is exploited to improve on the shot-noise limit for errors in estimating unknown parameters. My interests also include stochastic thermodynamics, where classical non-equilibrium fluctuations play a central role.

Projects

Please get in touch by 1st December 2025 if you are interested in applying for a URSS project combining analytical (mean-field) and numerical (higher-order) approximate methods for out-of-equilibrium spin chains in the summer of 2026.
