Professor Chenlei Leng chairs the RSC of the RSS
Professor Chenlei Leng has been appointed as chair of the Research Section Committee (RSC) of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), with effect from 1 January, 2016. He is the second member of Warwick academic staff to chair the RSC; Professor David Firth chaired the committee on two occasions previously, between 2001-2003 and in 2009.
The RSC is responsible for promoting the theory of statistics and the development and applications of statistical methods, and in particular handles papers submitted to the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B as discussion papers.
PhD Open Day on 25th November 2015
There will be an Open Day for potential PhD and OxWaSP applicants on Wednesday 25th November.
The event will commence at 2pm in the Statistics Common Room (Zeeman Building).

Congratulations to Pieralberto Guarniero on winning a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence for Postgraduates Who Teach
Many congratulations to Pieralberto Guarniero upon winning a Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence for Postgraduates Who Teach (WATE PGR). The WATE PGR programme seeks to recognise the best teachers from Warwick's postgraduate community, and Pieralberto 's enthusiasm and dedication to the subject were recognised as key factors behind his success in this years awards.

REF 2014: Warwick Statistics and Mathematics departments ranked 3rd in the UK
The results of the 2014 REF (Research Excellence Framework) exercise have now been published, and Warwick Statistics and the Warwick Mathematics Institute together have been ranked 3rd in the UK with more than 90% of our research activity assessed as either internationally excellent or world leading.
Our research environment at Warwick is rated by REF 2014 as the very best in the UK for mathematical sciences (achieving the maximum possible score of 100% at 4*).
The University of Warwick as a whole is now ranked (among universities) 7th in the UK for our research, with 14 academic departments ranked in the UK top ten for their disciplines.
