Management for Business Excellence

Course Aims
  1. To support the development of personnel for Engineering, Manufacturing, IT services, Process-based and other organisations
  2. To develop the capability to manage and lead in technology-based and other organisations
  3. To provide a knowledge and understanding of the context and key processes of engineering enterprise excellence.
Course Learning Outcomes
  • Knowledge and understanding of the context in which engineering enterprise excellence is achieved
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and philosophies which underlie engineering enterprise excellence
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of the human factors which influence the conduct of engineering enterprise excellence
  • Knowledge, understanding and the ability to apply the methodologies and tools used in engineering enterprise excellence
  • Ability to recognise the benefits of an engineering enterprise excellence approach
  • Ability to recognise, anticipate and manage the inherent uncertainties and difficulties in engineering enterprise excellence activities
  • Ability to recognise and ap-praise the financial and business implications of options and actions
  • Ability to plan and manage development and change
Module Requirements for Management for Business Excellence

Candidates for the MSc will be required to take 180 credits overall and to pass at least 80 credits from the Core list, as well as a dissertation project.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma will be required to pass 60 module credits from the Core list, as well as a dissertation project considered by an Exam Board to be a pass at Postgraduate Diploma level.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Certificate will be required to pass 60 credits from the Core list, including the ‘Creating Business Excellence’ module.

Candidates for the Postgraduate Award will be required to pass 30 credits from the Core list, including the ‘Creating Business Excellence’ module.

Definition of terms:

  • Core: module must be passed
  • MBE students are required to pass all modules taken as modules are marked as pass/fail only
