WMG provides expert support to drive innovation in business

3d_printing.jpgWMG has an extensive portfolio of equipment and resources, which are available for companies to use for testing and research. The equipment, which can often be difficult for companies to access elsewhere, is coupled with a very broad technical capability available from staff within the WMG. Companies are able to use the equipment in a variety of ways from a fully-funded, free-of-charge basis, through to a facility day-rate charge.

auto.jpgOur facilities are state-of-the-art and, in all but the most exceptional cases, are provided with expert technician support. All are offered at competitive rates, where applicable. Some of our equipment, such as the Vehicle Energy Facility, a Science City Research Alliance funded project, is unique in terms of being available for use within the public arena.

Tata Steel Research head gives Midlands Vision for Steel’s High Tech future

Tata Steel’s Dr Debashish Bhattacharjee is to give a free open seminar to Midlands businesses and researchers outlining his vision for steel’s high tech future at a keynote seminar on Thursday 13th October at WMG, University of Warwick.

Dr Bhattacharjee is Group Director, Research Development and Technology, Tata Steel Group and an Industrial Professor at the University of Warwick. Tata Steel is the world’s second most geographically diversified steel producer.

Work begins on £5 million product powerhouse for £12 million innovation programme

iipsi-daytime_image-sm.jpgWork is soon to begin to build a £5 million home at the University of Warwick for a £12 million programme designed to help Midlands SMEs access some of the world's leading product and service design technology.

The Coleshill office of Willmott Dixon has been chosen to undertake the £5 million project to house the new International Institute for Product and Service Innovation (IIPSI) at WMG at the University of Warwick. The company’s surveyors were on site for the first time this week.

£12 million to help local SMEs design products that even targets customers' emotional experience

IIPSIA new £12 million programme has just be announced to help Midlands SMEs access some the world's leading product and service design Technology.

The new International Institute for Product and Service Innovation (IIPSI) at WMG at the University of Warwick, is jointly funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the University of Warwick in a funding partnership brought together by the regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands (AWM).


Warwick volunteers share computer skills

Warwick VolunteersVolunteers from the University of Warwick have been sharing their computer programming skills with parents, teenagers and younger children in Coventry.

Students and staff organised a drop in session at BBC Coventry and Warwickshire's Open Centre in Priory Place during half-term break where anyone could have a go at creating their own computer game or animation. There was also help at hand for anyone who wanted to know a little bit more about how computers work.

Surgeons, CCTV & TV football gain from new video technology that banishes shadows and flare

Researchers at the University of Warwick have developed the world’s first complete High Dynamic Range (HDR) video system, from video capture to image display, that will help a range of users including: surveillance camera operators, surgeons using video to conduct or record surgery, and camera crews following a football being kicked from sunshine into shadow.

The researchers will be premiering footage of the world's first ever showing of a short film shot using this new HDR technology in the WMG Digital Laboratory at the University of Warwick on Wednesday January 19 at 6:00 PM.

Health Tech gets £1.5m boost

It was announced today, at the Festival of Innovation, that Health Tech, the programme which helps West Midlands SMEs to innovate new medical & healthcare products and diversify into the healthcare sector, has received a £1.5m injection to expand and extend its work through to the end of 2008.

 

The Health Tech programme is run by WMG at the University of Warwick and is supported by a European Regional Development Fund grant through the Government Office for the West Midlands to enable it to provide 5 days of free assistance to its client SMEs in geographic areas of greatest need for development.


State of the art scanner gives new life to classic cars

STATE-OF-THE ART SCANNER GIVES NEW LIFE TO CLASSIC CARS**TUESDAY 13 NOVEMBER The Lea Francis Hyper as it is today** Britain has a unique motoring heritage – most of it preserved in museums – but researchers at WMG are to use high-technology to breathe new life into our classic autos. WMG’s Craftsmanship team, based at the University of Warwick, have recently installed a £350,000 laser measurement machine, supplied by Metris UK, that can accurately measure – to the nearest micron – anything from the smallest component up to full size cars. And on Tuesday 13 November they will demonstrate this technology by laser scanning a priceless Lea Francis Hyper – winner of the 1928 Ulster TT race – to develop a unique computer model of the car.
