Here they usually ask you to fill a form on the organisation website
The most common method of online job applications is through the employer websites usually through filling a job application form.
No matter how long they are, job application forms are usually made up two main parts:
1- First part
This usually asks you to fill a relatively detailed and long form which includes information about yourself.
This information is very similar to the information found in your CV (Module 3Link opens in a new window provides more details). The information includes:
- Your key skills
- Your education and training
- Your professional experience
2- Second part
This usually asks you to write down and explain why you want to apply for this specific job at this specific organisation and what makes you a better candidate than other people who have applied.
Wait a minute…does the second part sound familiar to something we already discussed in one of the previous modules?
Well done! You guessed it! This part has the same information you would include in your cover letter.
Sometimes after filling all the information, the employer might still ask you to upload your CV and Cover letter, which you should have already prepared, customised and tailored for this specific job.
It is very important to make sure that the information in your CV and Cover letter you uploaded or put in your application form is compatible and the same as what you filled in the form, because the employer will definitely check that.
In some cases, employers would ask you to create an account on their website before applying for the job, this account is usually for:
1- You to see any updates on your application
2- For the employer to have your information just in case other jobs might become available that you might be a good fit for.
