10.1.3 Job portals and recruitment websites
Job portals and recruitment websites
These are the ones we discussed in Module 4 and Module 5
Other than their own websites employers also rely on job and recruitment portals and websites to post their job vacancies to be able to reach a larger number of potential candidates.
Module 5Link opens in a new window focused on some of these job portals and recruitment websites and provided details on how to use and create accounts on some of the most well-known international and regional ones. More specifically, it focused on:
1- LinkedIn: which is one of the most popular and used international professional networking platforms.
2- Bayt: a well-known regional job website focused on the Arab World (MENA region) with a large presence in Jordan.
Applying for a job on recruitment and job websites
If you are interested in a specific job that you found on one of these websites and you think it is a good match, then you can:
1- Amend your CV and Cover letter to fit the job description of the job you are interested in Module 8Link opens in a new window.
2- Click the ‘Apply’ button found in the job description of the job you are interested it. This will usually direct you to the employer job application page.
As mentioned earlier and in Module 5, one of the main advantages of having an account and applying through these websites is that
This quick and easy process usually requires sending your professional profile on that specific job website with your basic details (usually your contact detail and your CV) without having to leave the job website.
For example, the easy apply jobs have the below buttons on LinkedIn and Bayt:
Easy apply button on LinkedIn
Easy apply button on Bayt 1
Easy apply button on Bayt 2
The use of non-professional social media networking sites
As previously mentioned in section 4.3Link opens in a new window, you should try not to use social media networks that are not focused on jobs such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and so on for your online job search or you online job application, because there is no guarantee that these jobs are real or from a reliable source.
Having said that, if you find a job that you would like to apply for and you could only find it on one of the social media platforms that are not focused on jobs, and after you have:
1- Taken all the steps to stay safe and careful stated in section 4.3Link opens in a new window.
2- You tried as much as possible to make sure that the source of the job or employer is reliable and it is a real job.
Then you can potentially use these social media platforms to get more information on the job through the job posts shared by employer or company pages.
More importantly, you could use these social media platforms to communicate with the employer regarding the job you are interested in applying for.
Remember, I will say this again, these social media platforms are not a reliable source of information for jobs, and you have to be extra careful when using them for jobs.
