Major motoring developments crown Coventry’s 120 year Motor City legacy

Two major investments in the automotive industry in Coventry will create world class facilities for the automotive industry in a resurgent “Motor City” Coventry, and both will be built in the year that will mark 120 years of motor manufacturing history in the City. The first British motor car was made in Coventry in 1897 by The Daimler Motor Company Limited but the company that is playing a central role in Coventry’s resurgence as a “Smart Motor City” is Jaguar Land Rover who is key to two major motor developments in the city both of which will be complete, or well underway, by 2017.


Europe’s ‘Other’ Faith: Islam in German History and its Implications for Britain today

Dr James Hodkinson and Dr. Abdullah Sahin, a leading Islamic educational theorist at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education, Leicester, are delivering a free public lecture in Coventry Cathedral on 4 May 2016, where they will discuss how Islamic faith and culture were represented across German history in the Nineteenth century.

Warwick to award honorary degrees to radio Reverend, Olympic rowing coach, dyslexia researcher, author, leading literary critic, and teaching innovator

The University of Warwick has announced today, Wednesday 16th of December 2015, that it will award honorary degrees to six people at its winter degree ceremonies which will run from 20th to 22nd January 2016. Those to be honoured include:

  • Radio and TV cleric The Reverend Richard Coles
  • Warwickshire born science fiction, fantasy, & climbing writer M John Harrison
  • Renowned critic of Latin American fiction Professor Gerald Martin
  • Leading dyslexia researcher Professor Margaret Snowling
  • Olympic rowing coach Mr Paul Thompson MBE
  • Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Teach First Brett Wigdortz OBE

Janet L. Yellen presented with Honorary Degree from the University of Warwick

Janet L. Yellen (Chair of the US Federal Reserve System) prseented with an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of WarwickProfessor Sir Nigel Thrift, Vice-Chancellor and President of the UK’s University of Warwick, has presented Janet L. Yellen (Chair of the US Federal Reserve System) with an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of Warwick. The event took place on the evening of Thursday 19th November in Washington’s Newseum.
