Biological Measurement and Analysis

Proteomics facility

We offer cutting edge instrumentation and technical expertise to support world-class research and development across all areas of biological science, including genomics, proteomics and advanced bioimaging. Many of these services are provided through our Bio-Analytical Technology and Innovation Centre.

The techniques listed below are not exhaustive. If you are looking for a technique that is not listed please contact Claire Gerard ( ) to discuss your requirements.

Antimicrobial Screening Facility

The Antimicrobial Screening Facility offers antimicrobial susceptibility testing to aid in the discovery of new antimicrobial and antifungal treatments.

Genomics Facility

The Genomics Facility offers expert support and advice on a range of genomic and transcriptomic applications, including sequencing and library preparation. It houses a Bioanalyzer that provides quality and size assessment for DNA and RNA.

Advanced Bioimaging

The Advanced Bioimaging Facility supports the investigation of complex biological problems using electron microscopy. It specialises in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) including Cryo-TEM, thin-section TEM and negative-stain TEM.

Proteomics

The Proteomics Facility provides a full proteomics service to external users seeking to identify and quantify proteins and their modifications. It is equipped with state-of-the-art mass spectrometers for LC-MS and IM-MS.

Bioinformatics

The Bioinformatics Facility carries out data analyses and provides advice and training on designing experiment workflows and computational analyses. It also develops web applications and databases.

Circular Dichroism and Linear Dichroism

Circular dichroism and linear dichroism are spectroscopy techniques used to study the structure of biological molecules, including DNA, RNA and proteins.

Microscopy

We have a wide selection of microscopes available for biological analysis including optical, confocal and fluorescence microscopes. Warwick Medical School also houses a dedicated Computing and Advanced Microscopy Development Unit.

Chromatography and Metabolomics

Our Chromatography and Metabolomics Facility offers a wide variety of techniques for the separation, identification and quantification of compounds including HPLC, GC and LC-MS.

Robotics and bioreactors

The Robotics lab is equipped with high-throughput liquid handling platforms, capable of automating benchtop protocols. The BioLector monitors in-situ growth, pH, dissolved oxygen and fluorescence of individual cultures within 48 well plates.

MALDI

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation (MALDI) mass spectrometry is an ionisation technique that allows the analysis of biomolecules that can be fragile and fragment when ionised by more conventional methods.

Flow Cytometry

Our flow cytometry laboratory is capable of conventional or image cytometry analysis, as well as cell sorting. We have experience analysing a full range of samples, from bacteria to yeast and mammalian to plant cells.

Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance

FT-ICR mass spectrometry is a high-accuracy technique that can be used to determine the composition of biomolecules based on the mass-to-charge ratio of ions.
