Summer workarea printer hardware refresh - Student Printing
The Student Printing Service utilises a diverse range of HP based printer hardware. Some of this hardware is approaching its eigth year of operation. Therefore over the summer vacation period we will be refreshing a number of the printers that are installed across campus.
A modernised print estate will deliver a faster, more capable and reliable print service that will offer a much easier path to intergrate "Pull Print" based solutions in the future.
We will also be looking to add colour and duplex printing to areas of campus that have not previosuly benefited from this capability. This is part of our continued drive for service improvement.
For further details of areas that will be affected by these upgrades please consult the following section of the Printing Service Website.
GPAS Replacement - Student Printing
The Student Printing Service is provided via a combination of two main software technologies.
These are Novell iPrint and Salford software's GPAS chargable printing gateway.
Salford Software intends to release GPAS into the Open Source community and will no longer offer any formal support upon it from the end of July 2011.
Student Printing - Hardware and Software Refresh
In order to enhance the quality of service offered to our customers IT Services have conducted a summer program of upgrades and updates to existing Student/Workarea Print Infrastructure.
These improvements have been based upon customer comments, logged incidents and service requests and well as feed back from the SU and SSLC.
