Mobile Print - Updated Settings

Update - The new settings, as detailed below, are now live.

In response to student feeback we will be changing the default print settings on the Mobile Print service to single-sided black & white (mono). Colour printing will no longer be available when using Mobile Print.

This change is expected to take place during the Christmas vacation period to minimise disruption to the service.

Managed Print Service - Mobile Print

As part of the upgraded hardware and software infrastructure deployed within ITS student/public access workareas a new Mobile Print service has been released.
This gives customers the ability to print from any e-mail capable mobile device and collect a print job via a Kyocera MFD located within a range of ITS workarea locations across campus.

For a list of workarea locations please click here.

For further details about the service please click here.

Managed Print Service - Student Workareas

Over the summer 2012 period the student print estate has undergone a significant update to both it's hardware and software infrastructure.

This has provided a new "Pull Print" system based upon a software technology called safecom. Coupled with new and exisiting Kyocera and HP Multifunction devices the ability to Print, Copy and Scan to e-mail has been made available in approx. 95% of workareas across campus.

For details of all our workareas and what print queues and facilities are available please consult the following page.

The provision of colour and A3 printing has also been significantly improved and is now available in the vast majority of workareas around campus. For further details of these important changes please visit our dedicated FAQ pages.

Student Printing In Residences

A small pilot environment has now been successfully rolled out to two locations – Heronbank and Lakeside.

Students in these locations can print to these two devices using their ITS printing account, as they would in an open-access work area.

The printers currently offer colour A3 and A4 double-sided printing with an optional staple facility.

For more information on how to install the print queues visit the web page below;

If this pilot is successful, it is hoped that the service will be rolled out to more locations in the residences.

During the summer 2012 additional functionality – scan to email and photocopying - will be brought online, as we look to refresh the student printing infrastructure.

Campus Print Review

IT Services is currently reviewing the University print and copy infrastructure with a view to making it more efficient.

Likely benefits are expected to include:

  • A reduction in the environmental impact of printing
  • A more reliable print infrastructure with clear service levels and a better fit to your needs
  • A reduction in operational print costs

To achieve these goals, we are actively working with NewField IT, a company that specialises in this form of exercise. Their staff will shortly be on site auditing the current print infrastructure and they will be working closely with the University’s project team throughout the audit.

Further information in relation to this exercise is available in our FAQ's section.
