Message about earthquake in Turkey and Syria
As a University, our thoughts are currently with everyone affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria. We are aware it’s a difficult time for many students and other members of our community and there is support and advice available which we have detailed below. We have reached out directly to students who may be impacted.
If you have been impacted by these events and need emotional support, please reach out to the wellbeing team via the wellbeing portal. If you are struggling with academic matters or need other advice, please speak to your personal tutor or supervisor as they will be able to give you guidance or signpost you to the right team to help.
Our Chaplains are also available to support anyone at the University: people of all faiths and none. The Chaplaincy facilities are open Monday to Saturday 8:00am to 10:00pm, prayer resources and extra tea lights will be available in the Chapel. The Islamic Prayer facilities are available every day.
If your circumstances have changed and you are experiencing financial difficulties, please contact the Student Funding team in the first instance for information, advice, and guidance.
We encourage you to reach out for support if you have been affected in any way at all.
People have asked about how they can respond to this; various charitable organisations are coordinating humanitarian efforts that you can contribute to if you are able to, such as The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
