PGA Careers Leadership
30 credit PGA at Level 7
For School and College-based staff who have been assigned the Careers Leader role.
You can choose from the blended route which combines online live workshops and self-study activities or the distance learning route which is fully flexible and allows you to study independently at your own pace. Both routes will cover the career development theory, policy and practice you need for the leadership, management, coordinating and networking central to the Careers Leader role.
Drawing on your school or college's own assessment against the Gatsby benchmarks you will use the course content and labour market information to shape your own careers programme.
- Be part of an established and successful Careers programme for busy professionals, integrating studies with work-based contexts and supporting students as online learners
- Potential to progress and APEL to the PG Certificate Career Development and Coaching Studies
- Warwick is a top 100 international university, with a reputation for research excellence and consistently ranked in the UK top 10 universities
- Flexible online delivery
Once you have registered for the distance-learning route, you will be given access to the Warwick virtual campus at the beginning of the following month.
The blended route is 15 weeks and will delivered online for the 21/22 academic year. There are three days where you will join your peers and course leader Wendy Pearson via MS Teams for an online workshop.

Once you are enrolled with us, before attending the workshop you will be able to get started on the following:
- Start using the materials and try and get as far as section 3 before the workshop
- Share your experiences of using the Compass tool
- Introduce yourself and begin a discussion with peers via the forum.
After the workshops, our suggestion is to work through a section per week. The idea is that the sub-sections will provide you with the overview and guide; as well as suggestions for further reading.
You will complete one written assignment at the end. This will ask you to consider the implications of your organisation’s context and learner profile for your career learning strategy; your plan for meeting the benchmarks; and to critically appraise your style and approach to careers leadership. The course materials, and learning experience, should give you a strong basis for completing the assignment.
Please note that to receive funding from the CEC for this course we need to have you registered with the CEC by the 31st March 2022. After this date we will be unable to consider you for a place on the course during the 21/22 academic year.
