Early Childhood

Our programmes

You might be a nursery worker, childminder, teaching assistant, parent, grandparent, or health worker, for example, or simply wish to extend your knowledge and understanding about early childhood.

We offer an opportunity to nurture your personal, professional, and academic interests in our part-time BA(Hons) Early Childhood which is excellent preparation for Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) qualifications. We are also accredited with Graduate Practitioner Competencies should you wish to work towards these alongside your BA(Hons) degree, you will gain what the Department of Education terms as a 'Full and Relevant' level 3 practitioner status that will enable you to be counted in ratios in the Early Years sector.

Is the degree for me?

If you are currently working in the Early Years sector or associated field, or simply take an interest in how children learn and develop, the BA (Hons) Early Childhood degree is just for you.

If you have been told in your Early Years setting that you cannot be part of the full staff ratio, or that you are omitted from CPD and promotional opportunities because of the lack of qualification, it’s a perfect pathway for you, with the option to graduate not only with a BA (Hons) but the ECSDN GPC's certificate.

If you have previously qualified with a Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ STALS award and would now like to pursue a career in the sector, then this BA (Hons) degree is also the optional pathway for you.
