Language Taster sessions
FAB4.03, space outside the SLMC reception, 4th floor of FAB building

Hello, we are the Language Centre.

You can study languages with us at a range of levels, from beginners to advanced.

We currently offer 10 different languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

You can take language modules as part of your degree or alongside your degree.

There are many reasons and ways to learn a language.

Maybe you studied a language at school, and you want to continue learning it to keep up your skills or for employment after your degree. Maybe you’re returning to study or starting postgraduate studies and want to take up the rare opportunity of expanding your learning further.

Maybe you have never studied a language before and you are looking to pick up a language for a Year Abroad and to meet minimum proficiency to be considered for a study place in that language.

We have set up Taster Sessions in our 10 languages to help you choose a new language. Please sign up for one of our tasters.

CyberWomen@Warwick Winter Webinar: Our Story So Far
Online
Following on from our conference talk at the National Digital Forensics Seminar 2022: 6 Women, 6 Months, 1 Goal, our online webinar is aimed at academics, students, and professionals alike. We would love to welcome you to join us and share our story of exactly who we are, how we came together, and the challenges we have faced through putting on a national conference as a completely new initiative. Taking on board feedback from a wide range of experts, organisations, and students in the field, this is a chance to meet us personally, ask questions and understand how an initiative such as ours could benefit your university or company. So fellow students, come and say hello! We would love to meet you all and share how this was possible for us, and how it could be possible for you. Furthermore, we will be inviting you all to join us on a Discord server, to encourage us all to connect and create a positive environment for us all to be a part of. Academics, this webinar is aimed to show you how it has benefited us as Warwick students, and how it could benefit your students also. We are looking into the future expansion of CyberWomen@Warwick, and would love you to be a part of it. Organisations, so many of you have shown interest in working with us, and some are in the process of getting involved. We will be sharing our future ideas, and are open to discussing how we could collaborate moving forward.

Roundtable: The Future of Multilingualism in a Disrupted Society, followed by closing by Prof Stuart Croft

ONLINE SESSION
Despite the multilingual profile of contemporary societies, linguistic diversity does not suggest socio-political linguistic equality. On the contrary, linguistic hierarchies and linguistic exclusion have implications for social cohesion, sustainability, social justice as well as our collective ability to transcend boundaries to address complex, global problems. This panel brings together scholars from different backgrounds to discuss our options for a linguistically inclusive society and the future of multilingualism in the disrupted 21st century.

Closing by Prof Stuart Croft, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Warwick
