UNESCO identifies four pillars of lifelong learning – learning to know, learning to do, learning to be, and learning to live together. Yet our education system focuses ever more narrowly on the first two, with the result that millions of people don’t feel learning is for them. Yet to address the challenges of an ageing demography, change, climate change, the fourth industrial revolution, migration, and for that matter Brexit and the rise of populism, we need effective ways to engage the talents and creativity of everyone.
