A commitment to learning that is gently imparted in us
Name: Jo Montague-Fuller
Course: MSc Psychotherapy and Counselling
I completed a BSc in psychology through the Open University and during my final year wanted to take my studies further. I began my academic journey a bit later in life and when I first began my degree, I never thought I would subsequently be accepted on a Masters course at the University of Warwick.
It is a challenging course in many ways, although the breadth of the academic content is exciting – person-centred, Freud, Jung, Attachment Theory, Object Relations and others. A commitment to learning is gently imparted in us by our tutors, as well as the integrity and ethical stance that is necessary for us as future psychotherapists/counsellors. We are the first year of this MSc at Warwick and it has not always been easy, particularly when our face-to-face experience was interrupted by the arrival of COVID and lockdown. I have been massively impressed by the online provisions that were put in place to enable us to carry on our learning, switching from travelling to campus to just a week later being on Teams at home. I am hopeful that following my Masters and successful completion of the UKCP accreditation programme, I will be able to build a private psychotherapy practice that includes equine psychotherapy. I would also like to do some further study. Heading into my final year, I am grateful to have fellow students and tutors who are supportive and understanding of the highs and lows that have accompanied this Masters, and can highly recommend Warwick and the CLL as a place to study.
