Designed for ambitious candidates from diverse backgrounds, it prepares future leaders across academia, healthcare, and the life sciences industry.

Before you make a formal application, your proposal is emailed to a potential supervisor for their consideration. You may not be considered for a research degree if you do not have (and we could not identify) an academic willing to supervise your research.
For this programme, your primary supervisor must be from the Department of Computer Science. At least one co-supervisor will also be chosen from outside the department.

Applicants should hold (or be expected to obtain) a first-class or strong upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline. An MSc degree is desirable, but not essential.
Applicants from clinical or life sciences backgrounds with strong quantitative skills and an interest in computational methods, particularly AI, are also encouraged to apply. In those cases, the candidates will work with their supervisors at the early stages of their PhD to identify appropriate training opportunities.
